The Castle Route on Western Funen

In West Funen, you’ll find some of the most scenic stretches of the 660 km long Manor Route that runs across the island. The section in West Funen covers two stages, totaling 82 km.

It starts in the north at Favrskov, where you pass through the beautiful Ørsbjerg Forest and Brænde Ådal. With a small detour, you can visit Barløseborg Golf Course, which also has a cosy restaurant. The route continues through the village of Kerte, and along winding country roads, you’ll reach Erholm Manor.

From there, the route heads south toward Frøbjerg, where another short detour takes you to Frøbjerg Bavnehøj – the highest point on Funen. The panoramic views are spectacular, and in summer, the area comes alive with the popular Frøbjerg Festspil – a large outdoor theatre event attracting talented performers and happy guests.

Further along, you’ll reach Krengerup Manor, home to both the Skoda Museum and the Linen Weaving Museum. Enjoy the elegant buildings, gardens, and trails in the surrounding forest.

In Glamsbjerg, don’t miss the impressive public art installation by Per Buk. From here, the route continues on small rural roads toward Assens, passing the Strøjer Collection (check opening hours), Gamtofte Church, and Brahesborg Manor.

Continuing south from Assens, you’ll come through Thorøhuse, then past Hagenskov Manor, Dreslette Church, and farther south past Løgismose, Damsbo Manor, and Jordløse Hills, before the route enters the Faaborg-Midtfyn Municipality.
